I have recently been diagnosed with a neurological condition, it’s all new to me and I don’t know what to do to improve how I feel.
Where you are right now
You have recently been diagnosed with a neurological condition. You may have had a stroke or been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson’s, for example. Alternatively you may have had an accident and suffered a Head Injury or Spinal Cord Injury.
What your issues tend to be
You have reduced strength and co-ordination. Your standing, balance and walking is unsteady and difficult. You can’t use your arm and hand well and it feels tight and heavy. You sometimes get spasms. You feel you have lost your confidence and independence.
What you need help with right now
Firstly, you need the reassurance of an immediate physiotherapy assessment to explore both your movement difficulties and what you can do well. You need professional advice on what treatment is best for you from a specialist neurological physiotherapist. You want someone to help to improve how you move and guide you to do the right thing for your condition.
You know this may take some time, but you are ready to try physiotherapy sessions that will help you gain confidence and improve your strength, flexibility, balance and co-ordination.
